How to Clean up the Steam Mop?

Using a steam mop is an effective way to clean your floor without using any of those harmful chemicals. Since a steam mop uses steam to get rid of dirt and other persistent marks on the floor, you will only need water and electricity to use the mop. Because of this, the best steam mops can help you save time, energy and money. However, just like most household equipment, you will need to clean it regularly so you can extend its lifespan. Here’s how to do it:

1. Turn It off and Remove the Plug.

Keep in mind that a steam mop is an electrical device that can cause an electric shock. To ensure your safety, turn it off and make sure it is not plugged into the power outlet. And if you have just finished using it, wait for the mop to cool down before proceeding to the next step.

2. Wipe the Steam Mop Dry.

To make sure that sensitive parts of the device don’t get wet, wipe it dry before cleaning it. Don’t forget to drain the water tank. Some water might get into the internal parts of the steam vacuum cleaner.

3. Start With the Mop Pads.

The pads of your steam mop can be detached and wash so you don’t need to replace it right away if it gets too dirty. You can clean the pads by simply soaking them in water mixed with laundry detergent 15 minutes. After soaking, rinse them thoroughly and let them dry.

4. Brush the Inside of the Water Tank.

Dirt and bacteria can accumulate inside the water tank so you need to keep the water tank clean. To clean the water tank, pour some warm water inside and brush it.

Alternatively, you can also use a scrub instead of a brush. While you’re at it, you can also brush the outside surface of the water tank. Rinse the water tank with water after cleaning.

5. Wipe out the Dust on the Surface of the Mop.

To clean your steam mop further, wipe its surface with a clean cloth. You may need to use more than one cloth for this. If there’s too much dust, consider using a wet cloth.

6. Clean Other Detachable Accessories.

Some steam mops have additional accessories that you can attach and detach. You should also clean these accessories. To clean them, simply wipe the dust with a clean cloth. Feel free to use more than one cloth, if needed.

7. Put the Tank Back on.

Make sure that the water tank is dry before reattaching it to the steam mop so it doesn’t attract does while in storage. If you’re going to use the mop right away, you won’t need to wait until it becomes dry.

8. Store the Steam Mop Properly.

Always store the steam cleaner for home use in a secure area in an upright position. This will keep the device safe from any damages.
